HotHive author wins Best Series of Food Books in the World!

The HotHive are thrilled to announce that our author, James McIntosh, has won the highly prestigious Gourmand World Cookbook Award for Best Series of Food Books in the World!

The award was announced on 1 July in Paris at Comedie Francaise in Paris. James McIntosh was accompanied by Sue Richardson and Karen Swinden from The HotHive to collect his award.

James, who is from Northern Ireland, is not only an award-winning food writer and excellent cook but a highly qualified home economist. This means that he is genuinely qualified to provide sound advice on food nutrition, lifestyle, and home matters alike . This fantastic award confirms him as the leading food expert in the UK for 2009.

The main objective of the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards is to reward and honour those who "cook with words" and to help readers find the very best of food and wine books published every year. This year there were approximately 8,000 entries for the awards and entries from 29 countries for James's category. Edouard Cointreau, president of the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards, explains that mix. stands out from other entries. "We selected mix. and the series because of its innovative concept; it really helps the readers with practical easy recipes and shows them how to learn the basics. These four small books are just as important as the big books by Blumenthal, Robuchon as they correspond exactly to the needs of today's home cooks: they are cheap, they are practical and they really do work."

Out of Office: Images by a Travelling Salesman

by Jack Delmonte

"A boundless creativity and an insatiable appetite for new experiences with his alter-ego photography career showcasing what really drives him." René Carayol

Jack Delmonte was born and bred in London and has been a travelling salesman since 1977. In parallel to his sales career he has also continuously developed his photographic skills, undertaking commercial activities such as commissions for fine art photography and portraiture.

In January 2008, Jack accepted an international sales role for a global IT company. For the first time, Jack decided to combine his sales job with photography to document his travels. He embarked upon a twelve month photographic essay project and Out of Office is the fruit of this labour.

Fulfilling his two roles contemporaneously is not a trivial matter. From his base in London, he flies to international destinations. His priority is the business meeting where photography plays no part in the process. Often these are short trips to countries where heightened security or opportunity for
photography is minimal.

For this publication he captured images in the high pressure business world he occupies, displaying that even in this often stark and lonely environment, beauty can be found in the simplest of subjects: a hotel table, a street scene at night or just a few free hours spent wandering the city streets.
