How to use word of mouth marketing to sell your book
Word of mouth is a fantastic way to increase sales of your book, as one recent high profile photograph has shown. When Victoria Beckham was pictured buying a copy of American diet book Skinny Bitch, nobody realised the impact that one sale would have. But within hours of the photograph being published, sales of the book took it from 77,939th place in the Amazon sales charts to 209th.
Perhaps not all authors will grab the attention of Victoria Beckham to help spread the word about their book, but this story does show the impact that recommendations of a book can have. So, what can you do to make sure your book is talked about?
First, make sure that you organise a book launch. Making a big splash to let everyone know that your book is available will encourage not just your intended audience to talk about your book, but hopefully the local media as well.
Also try to arrange for a book signing. Most local bookshops are willing to host signings as it gives them publicity too.
Finally, if you have a Value Added Item, such as a well-known person who has written the foreword, make sure that you tell people about it. Having the recommendation of a famous face in your field is certain to give your book more credibility.
Word4Word run Market Your Book workshops throughout the year, offering tips and advice to authors who are marketing their own books. If you would like more information please give Sue or Sara a call on 01386 760405 and we will be happy to talk to you.
